Digital art is a very broad term covering a wide array of artistic works. Art forms that employ digital technology in its processing can be classified under digital art. Digital technology has transformed several art related activities. Art forms like sculpting and painting now employ digital technology in specialized parts of the process. Digital art falls under the category of new media art. Digital art can be entirely generated by computers or derived from other sources, scanned photographs for instance. It can even be drawn using graphic tablets, a mouse or vector graphics. Digitalized text and audio is usually not considered art in itself. However, when they are a part of larger projects which include other forms of art, they can be categorized as digital art. Art is considered digital when it is created using a computer. These pieces can be printed on different mediums such a paper or canvas. There are two primary models of images generated by computers. The basic type is 2D. These images are similar to those drawn using a pencil and paper. The difference being, the image is on a computer and you draw it using a stylus or mouse. The result may look like it was created using a pencil, paintbrush or pen. The second model of computer generated images is 3D. These images give an impression of virtual reality and are created using geometric shapes, NURBS curves or polygons. 3D images are used in advertising, television, print and games to create special effects. |
