Staying Connected Through Telecommunication

Date Added: 2012-01-03 22:11:40

Telecommunications is a general term used to describe different methods of communication. The telecommunication industry provides communication through voice, video, and written messages for long distances. Some of the most common modes of telecommunication include telephones, radio, internet, television, and telegraphs.

The history of telecommunication dates much further in the past than imagined. The earliest forms of telecommunication included smoke signals by the American Indians. Relay fires were also used often by military personnel to send messages to their troops during war. However, it was in the nineteenth century that the telecommunication industry found its first revolutionary technology, the Morse code.

Using signal lamps to form dots and dashes, complex messages were quickly delivered over long distances. After the invention of radio waves, wireless communication found its first historic count as it recorded and transmitted the moves of the astronauts who first landed on the moon.

In a matter of decades, these forms of communication became so advanced, high resolution images of planets that were billions of miles away traveled back to earth in just a few hours. Satellite technology has also brought the world closer as many are able to witness incidents in other parts of the world in real time.

The telecommunication industry delivers these services to homes and businesses and is essential to any country's economy. The traditional services of telecommunication include wired facilities cable TV, broadband and landline phones.

The recent advancements in the industry have led to the increasing demand for wireless communication like mobile internet, cellular phones, satellite television etc. Phones and other electronic devices are becoming smarter and can connect you to the world in a matter of minutes.
