Music is a form of art, which is delivered through sounds. The creation and definition of music varies from one culture to another. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the lines between different types of music can often become blurred. Some music is exceedingly organized and planned, while other could be spontaneous and improvised upon during production. Music is expressed through performances. They can be individual or group performances, depending on the purpose and cultural stetting. Performances take place once the creators of the music are satisfied with its structure. A performance can be of two types: improvised or rehearsed. Improvised performances are not planned and results in impulsive ideas, while rehearsed music is that which is repeated over and over again, until the creator feels satisfied. The production of music has four main components, which are: composition, notation, improvisation and theory. Composition refers to the creation of music, which is then recorded. Music can be composed in advance for a pre-determined performance or it can be composed at the time of production, resulting in improvised music. Notation refers to how music is expressed through writing. The means used to write music is symbols and notes, usually written on paper. The rhythm and pitch of music can be notated along with the methods of its performance. Improvisation is the making of impulsive music, for instance, jazz and blues is composed of a lot of improvisations. Finally, theory comprises of the mechanics behind music. The elements, patterns and techniques of music creation are identified and analyzed. |
