This e-book is for both beginners and for people who have experience with eBay. Beginners are going to learn the ropes and gain a tremendous amount of knowledge about eBay, while the more experienced will hopefully be able to improve their techniques and make more money and be provided with a more rewarding experience on eBay.

I’m going to go over the basics first because this will help you make more money from the techniques I show you later.

The possibilities on eBay are endless. You can sell just about anything on eBay. I’ve seen chewed gum from a celebrity put up for auction, a girlfriend, what a nice guy, and even themselves. Those are certainly extremes, but hey, there are some creative and strange people out there.

I’m going to give you some great advice on selling on eBay. I’m going to tell you the best way to get started and best way to improve. I’m going to cover buying and selling on eBay. I’m going to also go into a few techniques that not that many people know about.

There are so many people giving bad advice about eBay. The person who has the right information and works hard is the one that is going to be successful. It’s as simple as that. This e-book is going to give you the right information and it’s going to be up to you to implement what you have learned.

At the end of this e-book I’m going to give you some great tips about succeeding and thriving online. I’m going to also tell you why some people fail to make a living online.

Getting Started on eBay

Making a living on eBay is so great. Some of the reasons are that you don’t have to put as much time into the business as you do in other online businesses. I know people who work 18 hour days for many months without seeing a nickel.

You don’t have to spend hardly any money to get started. You don’t have to build a web site or write a book. You don’t even have to have a product, all of the time. You can also see profit almost right away.

The first thing that I suggest you do, well even if you’re already selling, is get a good digital camera. The pictures of your products are very important.

Some people have a great product, but the picture is kind of grainy or it’s just taken from too far away. It also sends a bad message to potential buyers because they see an unprofessional picture and they start to think that it might be a shabby product. Quality is very important.

I would suggest you have at least a 4 mega pixel digital camera. If you’re planning on blowing the picture up then it’s real important to have a higher mega pixel. I know because I used to sell digital cameras for Best Buy.

You should also have separate buying and selling accounts. You should have two accounts because if you’re selling something you will be able to have complete control.

You will be able to fix any problems and keep a good feedback rating. The accounts are free and they don’t take very long to set-up so it’s not much work at all. You will need two different e-mail addresses, but you can get another e-mail address really easily by using hotmail or gmail. It’s also a good idea to buy a few things to get some positive feedback.

Something that you should do when you have your accounts open is fill out your me page. This seems kind of obvious, but there are so many people who don’t do this. This does a couple of things for you.

The first thing is that it makes you look more professional and people are more likely to buy from people who look more professional. It also lets you add a personal quality, so the buyer doesn’t think of you as such a stranger.

Even though you’ve never met them, they know a few things about you and that is very reassuring to them. People are more likely to buy from a stranger they know something about, than a stranger that they know absolutely nothing about. Obviously having a positive feedback is very important, but this adds another element.

Another advantage that you get by doing this is that you get to put a link to a web site that you might own. Lots of people have web sites and it’s a good way to get traffic.

Now you can’t have selling language to describe the link, so just say something like, you can go to my web site to find out more information on whatever your site is.

Once they’re there, then they can buy products, but you just can’t have selling language. If you get confused on anything, make sure you read eBay’s terms and conditions.

The first things that I would sell are pretty obvious. Find stuff that you don’t use or stuff that you want to sell to make a profit. There are a few reasons why you should do this.

For one you clear up some clutter, but another is you’re turning a profit right away. It gives you money to invest in your business. It also breaks down a mental barrier, a lot of time the hardest dollar to make online is the first. Not so with eBay.

Some other things that this does is it allows you to get a feel for selling on eBay. It’s also a good way to get some positive feedback. I will get more in depth in selling products on eBay in my next section.

Selling on eBay

Alright, we are getting into the meat and potatoes of this e-book. The first thing that you have to do is get in the right mind set. Remember that you’re a salesperson, but you’re still a regular person.

What I mean by that is that you have to sell your product, but you have to be ethical and treat people well. I used to be a salesman and I’m a people person, so it comes natural to me, but it’s something that you always have to be thinking about.

Repeat business can be a great thing. Someone that has bought from you before and has had a good experience with you is much more likely to buy something from you in the future as opposed to buying something from a competitor of yours that they haven’t bought from in the past.

Building relationships on eBay is a great thing and that will help you make the big money on eBay. I will give you a some techniques that utilize relationships later on in this e-book.

Let me just start by telling you a lot of the mistakes people make who aren’t successful on eBay. Sometimes the best information is what you shouldn’t do.

 You have to write descriptive titles, don’t get all fancy and write something that doesn’t pertain to the product. Just don’t get too long, people don’t want to have to read more than they have to.

 Make sure that your picture is clear, close enough and has good lighting in the room. People want to see details on the product, they want to see if there is any damage or scratches. It seems like a simple step, but it is so vitally important.

 The description should be clear and you should get as descriptive as possible, but don’t make it too long. People’s attention span can be bad, so get to the point.

 Make sure that your background allows readers to read the text easily. I will go onto some people’s pages and it’s hard to read the text. This is a huge turn off and you will lose sales by having a background that makes it hard to read the text.

There are plenty of other things that people do, that they shouldn’t, but those are the most common. Now let’s get into what you should do.

Earlier I was talking about selling stuff that is around the house that you don’t want. Well what happens when that runs out? Well you have quite a few options.

Some of which I will cover later in the joint venture and eBay arbitrage sections. There are other options. I know some people who go to rummage sales and buy stuff there and sell them on eBay.

Now you can’t just buy anything, like a used pair of underwear and sell it on eBay and expect anything, but there are plenty of things that you can buy and turn a great profit on. I would suggest learning about antiques and the pricing of them.

You can find great antiques, collectables and furniture that is worth a lot of money, but the owner just sees it as old and taking up space and they don’t know how much it’s really worth.

I used to think that people that went to rummage sales were just penny-pinchers, but then I realize how much money could be made and wised up. I’ve found sports memorabilia worth a hundred times what they were selling it for, not to mention antique dressers, action figures and countless other antiques.

You know the old saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” This is the same thing when you shop at rummage sales. Think about the market at a rummage sale. It’s probably just some people in the neighborhood and from around the town. On eBay the market is literally millions of people.

One of the biggest problems that people making money on eBay face is finding more products to sell. There are always going to be rummage sales, except if you live in frigid Minnesota like I do, better stock up during the other three seasons besides winter, if you live in a cold place and plan on utilizing this technique. Now let’s get into the actually selling process.

Okay, so if you have a product, what do you do next? The first thing that you should do is take a picture or several pictures of the product. Make sure you take clear, close and well lit pictures. If your product has different angles, make sure to take a picture of all the angles.

Having good pictures is key and a great start! Now I’m not going to cover every little step, like well now you have to login to eBay etc., but I will cover the major steps.

I’m trying to cut down on the length of this e-book and I assume you all have the common sense for the little steps that I leave out. It can be maddening reading an e-book where they think that people are idiots.

You then have to write a very descriptive title. For an example, you’re selling a dresser. Don’t just say a nice dresser. If it’s a Victorian style, then say it’s Victorian style.

If it’s made out of oak, then say it’s an Oak Victorian Style Dresser, you get the idea. You just don’t want a title to get too long, that it totally confuses people. Do the same with the description text.

Explain all the details, but don’t get too long. What is too long? Well it depends on the product. If you’re selling a car, obviously you are going to have a longer description than you would selling a DVD. Use you own judgment and if you wouldn’t want to read it all, even though you are somewhat interested in the product, then you have a pretty good idea that it’s too long.

Make sure that you list the product in the right category. If you don’t do this you will lose a lot of traffic and traffic is vitally important.

Obviously you want more people looking at your product and more people bidding on your product. Make sure that you get it in the right category so people who are looking for your product or similar products can find it.

Always be nice while you’re dealing with people. Don’t blow up because you have someone mad at you, most times you can work it out and move on. You don’t want to start World War III, so even if it’s one person, they can rile up a lot of people if you mistreat them.

Don’t be unfair on the shipping costs. Some people do this, but you don’t have to be one of those people. You can make money on your product, you don’t have a right to make money on the shipping bill.

Meet new people, build relationships, that can really help you down the road and have fun! Meeting new and interested people can be very fun.

There are a few other things that I think can really help you. One is to sell internationally. Yeah the shipping can be more, but the real money is usually made on the product, obviously you don’t want to have to ship a DVD or something of lesser value overseas, but you can get so many more people interested in your product if you sell internationally.

Another is reply to people quickly if they have inquiries. This does a couple of things. It lets the buyer find out their information right away, while they’re still hungry and it adds an element of professionalism.

Another one is list your shipping costs and provide a link for other auctions you have going on. People like to know exactly how much they will be paying for something.

Pack your products well. A couple reasons for this. One is that you ensure that the product is delivered without damage and the other is that you send a good professional message to the buyer. Another tip is to start you auction bidding with a low amount.

People don’t mind placing bids for a small amount of money, before you know it, a lot of people start bidding. People can be stubborn and not give up very easily and the more bidders the merrier.

You people are probably wondering why I would have a section about buying products on eBay in an e-book dedicated to making money of eBay. The answer to this is simple, you can make money by buying products on eBay.

I will tell you how in the section titled eBay arbitrage. This section is just about the basics of buying products on eBay.

The first step is to not get scammed. That is really a terrible experience, especially if it’s for a high priced item. I will give you some advice on how to avoid scammers.

There are some different types of scammers. Some will just take the money and run, some will lie about the product they’re selling and some will not tell you about defects, the product has.

Don’t worry, scammers are pretty easy to avoid and they’re so many honest people on eBay, but like with anything else, there are some bad apples.

The first and most important thing to look at when you’re trying to find out if this person is a scammer, is to look at the feedback. It seems obvious, but sometimes people fall in love with the product or the claims and don’t look at the feedback.

You obviously want a good rating, but you’re also looking for the quantity of good feedbacks. There is a big difference between ten positive feedbacks and a hundred or even a thousand good feedbacks.

A person with that many positive feedbacks is probably a good person and a person that cares about their eBay reputation, so they’re going to do everything they can to please their customers. There are plenty of other precautions a potential buyer can take.

 First off if you are bidding on a more expensive item, get the seller’s phone number and call them. You definitely want to make sure they have a traceable phone number.

 Be informed before buying. Know how much your product would normally sell for, before you buy it. There is plenty of free information out there, go ahead and utilize it.

 Contact the seller and make sure they’re responsive and determined. Also see if they have several different payment methods. Someone just accepting money orders should throw up some red flags.

 Always look for the satisfaction guarantee or at least ask the seller on their return policy, before you buy.

 Use your feedback option. If someone is deceitful, late with their delivery or is a scammer. Leave the feedback. If you’re doing enough business on eBay, you might see this person again or at the very least you warn other potential buyers about their activity.

Well now that we got the tips for not getting scammed out of the way, let’s get into finding products to buy.

Searching for items to buy on eBay is very important. I mean the searches that you perform on the web site. Some of the mistakes that people make is that they aren’t detailed enough in their search.

They might really want toys from the 1980’s, but they just search toys or they search old toys. Well you’re going to get back so many search results that you won’t be able to find what you’re looking for. A person then gets frustrated and thinks that eBay doesn’t have what they’re looking for, when they probably do and then they leave.

You must define your search with description, but don’t get too descriptive. This is just an example, but if you’re look for action figures from the 1980’s don’t search for action figures from the 1981, unless you only want action figures from 1981 only. The action figure from the 1980’s that you wanted might not have been made in certain years.

Don’t search for superman action figures from the 1980’s that are in good condition and are rare. You might not get anything because the searches cover the titles and some of the descriptions. Either good condition or rare would probably have to be in the Title or at least in the description.

If you’re looking for specifically Superman action figures from the 1980’s, then just search Superman Action Figures. If you get too many that are recent then re-define the search to Superman Action Figures from the 1980’s.

You have to know where to look to find the right products and searching is a great way to do that. It can save a ton of time if done right and time is money. On to a technique that not many people know about!

Some of you might be thinking, what in the heck is eBay arbitrage? I was thinking the same thing the first time I started to read about it.

Arbitrage is simply buying something to sell it for a profit, so you could imagine what eBay arbitrage is. It’s simply buying something on eBay, in order to, turn it into a profit by selling it on eBay.

Now there are a couple different ways of doing this. One way involves buying and selling on eBay. The other involves buying somewhere else and selling on eBay. I will explain both of them. The first way is to buy a good product that isn’t selling well because of some reason.

This reason could be because they have terrible description or they don’t have good pictures. Anyways, research the value of the item and if you think it’s worthy of buying and then selling it the right way, well then go for it.

It’s risky if you don’t know what you’re doing, if you have good information and know what you’re doing, then it’s pretty easy money.

The second way is to buy a product on another auction site, besides eBay, and sell those products on eBay for a profit. This technique requires some research and I’ll talk about it in a little while.

I’m going to focus on the first technique here first. The best advice I can give is to become an expert in at least one topic.

If your interest is in antique furniture, then learn everything there is to know about it and the pricing of items and then buy items that are way undervalued because of the reasons I’ve mentioned before. You can take these products and keep them, if you love them, or else sell them for a much higher price, if you market the product better.

That’s how simply it can be. You buy a good product from someone and you just do a better job at selling it. I have provided plenty of information in this e-book to do that, so just refer to earlier sections.

It seems like such an ingenious way of doing things and I’ve thought about this, but then I thought that if it’s real then everyone would be doing it and I just moved on. The truth is that everyone is not doing this, so there is an opportunity for you to do this.

The great thing is that you can find all kinds of different interests to pursue and become an expert in, there are so many different niche markets in eBay. You remember when I told you that I had a few secrets that not many people know about, well this is one. Let’s move on to another one!

This is technique two, if you will, of eBay arbitrage. It is a similar technique to the first, but this one involves going outside of eBay in order to find products. I know I talked about other ways of finding products outside of eBay, but this is different.

There are plenty of other online auction sites out there. An easy way to find these sites is to just Google auction sites or government auctions. There will be plenty of products to look over. I like government auctions, you can sometimes find some great things that are really selling lower than what they’re worth.

When you get to these sites people will ask me where do I look for products to buy? Again, I’m going to bring up being an expert in a certain market or markets. Being an expert in a market will allow to run a simple search on it and then be able to see if a product is selling for a lot less than it should be.

If you are not an expert on something or have trouble recognizing what something is worth, then you have to do some research. Find items that are the same or similar and see what they are selling for. Again, remember to look for products that have bad photos, bad titles and descriptions, and misspelled words.

If you have a good description of the product then you can run it on a search engine and you should be able to find out how much it’s worth. The research doesn’t take that long, so don’t be alarmed, just make sure you know how much something is worth before you start bidding on the product.

You must remember to use eBay as a very powerful resource. There are several other ways to make money from eBay without selling products. Some advice that I can give to a person that wants to make money online or is currently making some money online is to make money from a few different areas.

This means getting streams of money from a few different areas. I’m not a big fan of putting all my eggs in one basket, when it comes to making money online.

You’re probably going to hit rough patches in some areas and if you have a few different streams of income coming in from different money making techniques, you can make through the rough areas a lot easier. It might be a web site that you have affiliates on or a web site where you are selling a product.

You can use eBay to build an e-mail list, which you can sell products to the rest of your life. E-mail lists are golden for someone who wants to make money online.

Sometimes you don’t even have to have a product to make money with a list. There are plenty of people out there, who have products, but are looking for people to sell them to. You might be able to get half of the proceeds from someone else’s product, by just sending it to your list.

Now that is very easy money, really doesn’t get much easier than that. I will get into this more in the joint venture section. You can also sell affiliate products to your list and that is also easy money. You can also come up with your own product or e-book and sell it to your list and keep all of the profits.

So the question is how do you build a list using eBay? Well there are a few techniques that you can use. I will get into that in the joint ventures section.

Joint Ventures

Joint ventures are a great way to make money on the Internet. Some people believe that almost everyone on the Internet is out there looking to scam people, while there are some people like this, there are so many honest people out there too. They share a common goal with you and that is that you both want to make money.

Joint ventures are great ways for both people to make money. Think of it this way, if a person wants to sell something, well they need someone to sell it to. A person may have a good product, but they can’t find a group of people to market it to.

That’s where another person who has the potential to market to a group comes into play. They might not have a product, but they have a group to market it to.

Well they strike up a deal, probably to split the profits down the middle and all the money you make doing this is money you probably won’t normally make. It’s a win win situation.

There are obviously two different strategies for doing joint ventures. There are more ways of doing them, but I’m going to cover the two most common ways.

One way is to build your own list. Remember when I told you earlier about becoming an expert in a certain market. For example becoming an expert on antiques and selling antiques. This will help you build a list that is interested in buying antiques or products about antiques.

You probably don’t want to build a list of people who are interested in gardening and then send them a sports memorabilia product. You might get a few sales, but you always want to sell to people’s interests.

There are a few ways to build your list on eBay. First you should go to www.aweber.com and sign up for an account. They give you a free 30-day trial. One way is to offer freebies. You can write a short report about what ever market you’re interested in.

You put up a link on your me page to link to your report. The catch is that they sign up for your list before they read the report. You can also ask people you sell to, to sign up for your list, offer them the freebie.

Be nice and build good relationships with people on eBay. Tell people that you can teach them a lot about whatever you’re an expert in. People always want to learn about their interests, so they helps you in signing up people for your list.

The other way to do a joint venture on eBay is for you to create a product. Write an e-book about the topic that interests you. Writing really isn’t that bad and if you’re writing about something that interests you, it can be fun, it’s not like you’re writing a book report for school.

Make the book very informative for it’s readers and give away some of your secrets. Give advice on finding good items to buy in your market, on eBay and off eBay.

There are other things that you can sell in a joint venture besides e-books. I’ll leave that up to you, because I don’t know what markets everyone is interested in, be creative.

Once you come up with your product, you need to find a market of buyers to market your product to. A good place to look for a partner is to look for powersellers who sell products in your market.

Once you’ve found one, just send them a friendly e-mail. Show some respect and praise them and then ask them if they would like to make money through a joint venture. You don’t have to tell them all of the details in the first e-mail.

If they are interested, they will send you a reply. That’s when you can get into the details and start talking about a plan of action. They might not know what a joint venture is, so you might have to explain it to them.

People might think that people wouldn’t be interested in doing a joint venture with someone they don’t know. Well there are a couple of factors.

People like to make money. Who doesn’t want a good opportunity to make more money. Powersellers do trust strangers everyday. Besides, if you have good feedback then it will really help your credibility.

Advice for Making it Online

A lot of the people who fail to make a living online make some of the same common mistakes. I’m going to go over a few of the big ones. These are problems that face all Internet Marketers.

I give you this information because I want everyone who reads this e-book to make it online. A person who makes a living online should remember these points.

 You have to take action and commit to making money online. I run into so many people who keep on trying to find that product out there that’s going to make them millionaires over night. There is no product or ebook that’s going to make you rich overnight. Take action and start making money.

 Once you commit to a project, follow through with it. Some ways of making money aren’t for everyone, but if you never finish a project or never follow through you won’t be able to make a living online.

 Time management is a huge problem for people working out of the house. We don’t have to go to an office and we don’t have a boss, but we have to stay focused and put in a good days of work.

 To have a full-time income, most people need to work a full-time schedule. That’s just the reality of the situation. Can you make it rich? Sure, but most people don’t, so don’t feel bad is you don’t. Be prepared to work hard, at least until you learn the ropes and build some relationships and get your operation up and running.

 Stay committed to making money online. There will be a few hurdles and things won’t always be rosy, but stick with it. Don’t be afraid of success, just remember to stay focused and committed.
